Welcome to The Guest House at River Estate…..

It will be your own private riverfront paradise that is completely unlike any other vacation property on the north shore of Kauai. You'll feel at home as soon as you enter the property and that feeling will last until you leave to return to your own home you left behind to come to Kauai. This is the natural Hawaii you have heard about and this location has a lot of the spiritual energy that draws people back to Kauai over and over. It's tangible and deeply felt by our guests.

River Estate is a block from a secluded beach which can be accessed by kayak or paddle board centrally located in the prime North Kauai area between Hanalei and Ke'e beach. There is no other north Kauai rental property that offers this. Take a picnic down to a beach with no public parking and thus no other people on it. When the outside areas are crowded during peak times of the year you'll always be able to come home to peace and quiet. Try finding that in a beach house or a house in town. River Estate is just removed enough to be totally peaceful and private yet very close to everything North Kauai is famous for and as such very conveniently located for easy access to all the area has to offer.

Before you arrive I will have already communicated with you and offered my services as your private concierge and sent you a complete welcome package filled with helpful information. My 50 years here have provided me with many experiences which I will share with you to help you make the most of your time. I will remain at your service throughout your stay.

The location of the property is centrally located on the north shore of Kauai between Hanalei Town and Ke'e Beach at the end of the road by Haena State Park which is easily accessible by bicycle which we can provide for you. All the activities and attractions on the north shore are within 3 miles of the property. East is Hanalei and west is Haena and all the beaches it is known for. You'll come home every night to peace and quiet.

When you stay at the Guest House you’ll find the kind of experience that welcomes you after a long day of surfing, swimming, hiking or shopping. Though the home is maintained to 5 star standards, the laid back atmosphere and casual decor will ultimately relax you into a blissful island experience you will not soon forget. This home has been rented by numerous honeymooners and is at the top of the list for a romantic private getaway for couples of small families for many years.

A beach house in town is great way to vacation on the north shore of Kauai if a beach house is what you are looking. However if you are looking for a more relaxed natural location that's still close to all the activities and attractions the north shore of Kauai is noted for you should definitely consider staying at River Estate. Many others have enjoyed this sanctuary in the past 27 years that we have been in the business of taking care of visitors.

Clean, peaceful and beautiful!

This was such a unique property in a cool location. Just minutes from Hanalei, this secluded property was super clean, stocked with everything we needed, and Mark was very helpful! I wish we could have stayed longer! We will definitely return.

Lovely home by the river

Very beautiful setting, all the amenities you need! The Guest House is very comfortable and pretty. We had a little trouble getting in, as the key lockbox code had been changed, but Mark answered the phone right away and we got it sorted out. The only real problem was that some unknown (to us) person in the neighborhood has a number of dogs who bark, all together, at any time of the day or night, for long stretches of time. We took a video that Mark sent to the mayor, but nothing was done. It seems enforcement of noise abatement is lax. When the dogs weren't barking, it was as described online, a peaceful setting, with birds and river sounds. Mark was an excellent host and tried to help. But it seems a lot of people around there hunt wild boar and keep hunting dogs, who like to express themselves! So bring your earplugs.

Kauai warm week

The whole day was very nice. Our only complaint really was that some neighbors down the way had what seemed like 1000 dogs that would periodically bark in the wee hours of the night. But otherwise it was perfect for our small family.

Tropical Paradise at the Guest House!

Wowed by Mark's River Estate Guest House!! The home is well-appointed with a great kitchen, very comfortable beds, and cold a/c when one needs that after a day on the Kalalau trail or big day at Lumahai Beach. Our favorite part of the estate is the stream that runs alongside the house! We rented kayaks and spent many mornings and evenings paddling downstream to Wainiha Bay to watch sunsets. We also enjoyed walking to the Wainiha General Store for smoothies, ice cream and a great selection of beverages! Mark was very responsive to all the questions we had before and during our stay. I can definitely say we're planning to stay at the River Estate Guest House the next time we vacation on the North Shore of Kauai!

Gratitude changes everything. From taking life's circumstance for granted to appreciating every precious heart beat is a blessing. Every day becomes a time to savor and embrace. These are the thoughts I have immediately when I see an image of my home turf. I arrived on Kauai shortly after my April 2nd birthday in 1970 on a surf trip and basically never left. Serendipity has followed me my entire life. Without it who knows where I'd be or what I'd be doing now. Living here has taught me many things that can only be learned here in a small community populated by many Hawaiians. Work hard, be humble and helping others are some of them. Respect for the land is paramount here. We are stewards of these lands when you understand the meaning the land has to the Hawaiians. The state motto is "The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness" A very apt motto which speaks to the value the Hawaiians place on the "aina". That has always come naturally to me and was very helpful in fitting into my community here. I believe it is why I'm still here. Hawaii and Kauai in particular is a very sacred and spiritual place in the world. I have heard many of my guests tell me that they felt the spiritual energy strongly here. A rejuvenating feeling is palpable as well. My job is to share my Kuleana ( A uniquely Hawaiian value and practice which is loosely translated to mean "responsibility." The word kuleana refers to a reciprocal relationship between the person who is responsible, and the thing which they are responsible for.) with my guests and allow them to experience the true natural Hawaiian environment which is still the same in my neighborhood as it was 52 years ago. My life has been filled with many serendipitous moments. The trick is to recognize them in the moment and make the correct decision. I'm one luck buggah who knows that and values every heartbeat I'm blessed with now and am grateful for my world and the friends I make along the way doing the jobs I love. Aloha...

River Estate is a completely unique experience. The property location on North Kauai is in arguably one of the nicest areas of the whole state and quite possibly the world. Because there had always been interest in short term renting here I decided to turn both homes into a vacation rentals. There are certain places on the island and in Hawaii that are so special that people from all over the world have heard about them and have a desire to visit them. Not only is Kauai so very special, I believe Hanalei and the surrounding area is the very best Kauai has to offer. Although I have lived here for 50 years I have not forgotten the feelings I first felt when I arrived here. These are the experiences that lock this place in peoples hearts and minds and keeps bringing them back. It isn't the things you do here but the actual island itself, it's charm and it's local people that bring visitors back time and time again.
