Stay in Tree House built by TreeHouse Master Pete Nelson ~ off the grid

We have three treehouses strategically placed to give you privacy and that are close enough that you can rent out all three.

What makes the Aliyah unique is that the snuggle palace is 30 feet high and is our tallest treehouse. It’s great for when you’re a family that likes to spread out. In the main cabin is a full size bed and across the swinging bridge is a bunk bed with a twin & full size bed. Separated sleeping quarters. (VRBO number 767630)

The hickory is unique in that it has a play ground, consisting of a slide, a swing and two hammocks. It has a cozy nook with lots of games. This treehouse is best for two adults and 4 kids that want to be in the same room at bed time. (VRBO number 7710811)

The Pete (you are looking at now) is unique and has a wood burning stove. It has the biggest floor plan with lots of open space with an over sized loft with a king size bed. Best suited for Pete Nelson treehouse lovers & a couple with two small kids. (VRBO number 767630)This is the World famous TREEHOUSE as shown on Animal Planet-TreeHouse Masters-Kentucky Climbers Cottage.

Take the ferry from Augusta across the river to the town of Ripley, Ohio where you can visit two houses that were part of the Underground Railroad – the Rankin House and the Parker House. This small, historic town also boasts a museum. Learn more at http://www.ripleyohio.net/
Maysville, Kentucky has many food options and is a lovely historic town. Our favorite restaurants are the Parc Café, De Shas, Capronis and Lil Jumbo. You may enjoy touring the bourbon distilleries that are part of the Bourbon Trail. Learn more at

Creatures Who Are Not Pets
Please remember that you did not book a stay at a 5-star hotel; you chose an experience close to nature. The Kentucky forest is home to insects, spiders, frogs, snakes, mice, coyotes, deer, turkeys, and many other birds. We ask you to respect these creatures and understand that you are a visitor in their home. That said, there are a few things you should know:

There are no bears in the area and no poisonous snakes that we know of.
When the weather turns cold, do not leave the doors of your treehouse open. Insects searching for warm nesting sites love our treehouses.
If you encounter pests that have traveled into your treehouse or bathroom remove them the way you would remove them from your own home.

Relaxing treehouse adventure
Bill and Shelly have really outdone themselves in their journey of creating Earthjoy. You can tell there is so much love put into each and everything they offer. The hiking, the slides big enough to sit up in, the wind chime forest where you can hang a chime for your lost loved ones, the old 1800 house, the hanging sitting spots throughout the site, and all the fun they offer for children. We stayed in the Pete Nelson Treehouse and it was beautiful and so fun. Loved the giant doors to see outside, the ninja obstacles and swing for kids, the hammock for two, and the awesome fire pit to enjoy and relax at night with s’mores and hotdogs. The bathhouse was so cozy and you have it all to yourself. It was nice to have a relaxing to shower and wash our hands. The buck stove in the living room kept us warm at night by fire but they also had a space heater that kept us extra cozy. The best part of the trip was the kids snd husband learned how to climb a tree with Bill. They were harnessed, had a helmet, could swing from the rope, and come down upside down. They absolutely loved it and what a unique and fun experience to fully appreciate all the trees have to offer. We packed too much and bought too much food, but we will know better next time what to bring and what not to bring. It was truly an exciting, wonderful experience that they have built for tree lovers alike to enjoy and we will definitely be coming back. Thanks Shelly and Bill!!!

Nice but listing pictures are confusing/outdated
We liked it but honestly it’s a little pricey for what it is. Out of date pictures make it hard to understand the layout and we ended up bringing things we didn’t need because the listing is light on details for the kitchenette. Would be nice if the other rentals at this property were listed on Vrbo because it is hard to know if there will be nearby neighbors or not from the listing.

Incredible!
EarthJoy is an incredible retreat not far from the hustle and bustle of Cincinnati. Our family (ages 11-56) absolutely loved our weekend in Pete Nelson’s treehouse and Shelly and Bill’s 285 acre property. Thank you!

View from the treetops
Overall, we had a great experience in the treehouse. It took us back to our youth as scouts with latrine duty, fire building, boiling water for washing dishes/ditty bags and endless hikes with all means if flora and fauna regardless of the weather.

I had dreamed of a treehouse when I was 10 years old. I spent that summer in the woods with my siblings pretending we had treehouses. We made the moss into carpet and used big rocks our furniture.

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

When we started our dream company in 2007, “EarthJOY Tree Adventures” we knew that we wanted to offer our out-of-town tree climbers an entire experience.

We took Pete Nelson's treehouse worskhop in 2009, yet never could find the piece of property that we felt was the right fit for us or we were facing the problem that it was always out of our reach financially. When we saw Pete on “Animal Planet” we knew it was time. We immediately sent our application in and when we were chosen, I called Dad to ask if we could build it on the farm. He said YES! And that was just the beginning of a life-long dream, come true.

Qué distingue a esta propiedad

A “Pete Nelson” Treehouse -The Kentucky Climbers Cottage

Beautiful hiking trails that lead to a large trillium, tensile hammock you climb up into.

Book a guided tree climb.

Take a 15 minute ride to Augusta, KY (home to George Clooney). There you will be able to visit his Mothers antique shop called, “Nina's.” You will find that there is plenty of good southern cooking around and even an Irish Pub. OR, if you’re really looking to be adventurous, you can take a ferry ride over on the Ohio River and eat at the, “Boat Tavern” located right on the river.

Maysville Historical downtown is only 15 minutes from the tree house. You can also enjoy the Maysville zipline at “The Big Zipper,” or book a horse back ride with wild equestrian at “Maysville Equestrian Center.”
